New Schools Coming to Madera’s Riverstone Community

July 29, 2017

Madera, CA - Following a decision this past May by the Golden Valley Unified School District, the new 2,000-acre community of Riverstone will see the development of three on-site elementary schools and one secondary school facility anticipated to serve as many as 1,770 district students.

Belonging to the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District, Riverstone’s first elementary school is planned to equip new generations for academic success.
The planned elementary school in the heart of Riverstone’s Lodge District will only be a walk or bike ride away from the district’s new homes.

“This is obviously terrific news,” said Riverstone’s Tim Jones. “We realize the great importance today’s families place on a quality education for their children, and our upcoming Riverstone schools will definitely provide the top-notch, well-rounded education they demand. I’m so proud that Riverstone is part of Golden Valley Unified, and I look forward to partnering with the district’s hardworking team of teachers, coaches, students and administrative staff.”

The development of construction plans is already underway for Riverstone’s first elementary school, which is expected to accommodate 620 students. The school will be situated within the Lodge District, a family-friendly neighborhood featuring Riverstone’s inaugural collection of new residences from McCaffrey Homes, Lennar Homes and D.R. Horton. Riverstone has already reserved and opened escrow on 100 homes, and many of the first home-buying families have moved in and are enjoying the Lodge District’s newest amenities including Adventure Park, Garden Park and a number of hiking and biking trails. Residents will soon be able to enjoy the resort-style amenities of The Lodge, a new community clubhouse anticipated to open this summer.

As the first of multiple community clubhouses that will be built at Riverstone, The Lodge is a creatively designed, truly one-of-a-kind venue that pays homage to the West’s National Park lodges of yesteryear. Amenities will include a Great Room with WiFi, a state-of-the-art Fitness Center, a resort-style pool and spa with poolside cabanas, a children’s pool, an outdoor bar with firepits, a demonstration kitchen, a community garden, and a Gear Barn outfitter’s cabin offering a variety of gear for homeowners’ on- and off-site adventures.

An award-winning school district also known for its technological innovation, Golden Valley Unified comprises nine schools serving nearly 2,000 students. The district maintains an exceptional student-teacher ratio of 24:1, and was named a Silver Award recipient for Best High Schools from U.S. News & World Report.

The district’s Liberty High School, named a California Distinguished School for 2009, boasts a graduation rate of 96.18%, which is the highest graduation rate in the region. Last year, 60% of Liberty High students finished above a 3.00 GPA, and traditionally, approximately 65% of its Seniors graduate UC/CSU-ready.

In addition to exemplary academics, Liberty High School is also recognized for its strong athletics program with league, division and valley championships in various sports.

The district’s Ranchos Middle School, named a California Distinguished School, offers a one-to-one mobile device program for its 6th through 12th graders. Students utilize cutting-edge 10.1 Samsung Note Tablets and Chromebooks both in the classroom and at home, giving teachers the ability to make learning more immersive and participatory.

Two other district schools that have both garnered California Distinguished School honors include Webster Elementary and Sierra View Elementary. Webster has just announced the opening of a transitional kindergarten class, which provides a bridge for students between their preschool years and traditional kindergarten. The program, which is also available at Sierra View, delivers an engaging learning opportunity using age-appropriate curriculum to prepare students for state standards. Also making news at Webster is the school’s impressive attendance rate, which was higher than 96 percent for the 2017 school year. The school offered valuable incentives for students to promote being in class—and being on time.

Situated in the heart of the region’s path of growth, Riverstone—when complete—will total approximately 6,578 single-family, attached and multi-family homes, as well as commercial and mixed-use space including office, service and retail. Amenities at Riverstone are anticipated to include walkable neighborhoods, parks and open space, multiple community clubhouses, hiking and biking trails, a dog park, a community farm, historic olive and citrus groves, a sustainable water supply, and on-site schools belonging to the award-winning Golden Valley Unified School District.
