Riverstone Master-Planned Community Earns Coveted Gold Nugget Honors

May 15, 2015

Madera, CA - Judges for the 2015 Gold Nugget Awards have recognized the Madera County master-planned community of Riverstone as an Award of Merit winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the United States and internationally. Chosen from the elite pool of Merit Award winners, Grand Awards will be announced on June 25 as a feature highlight of PCBC®, the nation’s largest regional conference and trade show for the real estate development industry.

Literally carved from historic orchards on agricultural lands in southeast Madera County in the heart of the Fresno Metro path of growth, the 2,000-acre Riverstone is a fully entitled development. When complete, Riverstone will total approximately 6,578 single-family, attached and multi-family homes, as well as commercial and mixed-use space including office, service and retail. Amenities at Riverstone are anticipated to include walkable neighborhoods with 200 acres of public and private parks and open space reserves, an extensive trail network, on-site schools, and future access to a nearby stretch of the San Joaquin River and adjacent lake. Riverstone’s first phase of homes is anticipated to be ready for occupancy Fall 2016.

“We couldn’t be happier with this industry recognition,” says Riverstone developer Tim Jones. “The award is affirmation of our hard work and desire to create a progressive, forward-thinking Central Valley community. Our goal for Riverstone has always been to go far beyond the concept of the typical suburban planned community and create a truly original destination—one that incorporates top quality and innovative design while paying homage to the rich heritage of the land and agrarian spirit of Madera, Fresno and Clovis.”

The land-planning firm guiding the Riverstone vision is Santa Ana, California-based William Hezmalhalch Architects, a global, comprehensive land planning and design studio that specializes in the shaping of new communities.

“Riverstone is a different kind of place,” said Todd Larner, Senior Principal of Community Planning and Design at WHA and lead planner for Riverstone. “The unique nature of the project enabled us to incorporate all the things that make a community a great place to call home. At its essence, Riverstone is evolutionary. It’s all about the elements of home, food, gathering and adventure. When you combine these things together in an authentic and simple-yet-elegant way, the experience becomes timeless.”

“Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish. “We applaud them all, and we look forward to our June 26 celebration of Merit and Grand Award winners.”

Now in its 52nd year, the Gold Nugget Awards is the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. It honors design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development and specialty housing categories. Winners this year were chosen from over 600 entries from around the world.
